Album Info:Train photos of my 2023 trip to Germany, Italy and Switzerland. This was not a train watching trip but many trains were seen and ridden. The highlight was probably hanging out the window taking pictures along the narrow gauge Rhätische Bahn network in Switzerland over the Bernina and Albula lines.

Title:  High Speed and Local Trains at Munich HBF
Description:  A high-speed ICE 3 (left) stands next to a Class 2463 belonging to regional operator Go-Ahead. Go-Ahead is a well-known UK bus and train operator. The first contracts won in Germany are Stuttgart Netz 1b Rems-Fils and 1c Franken-Enz (operated since June 2019), Stuttgart Netz 3a (Murrbahn, since December 2019) and E-Netz Allgäu since December 2021, new electric services operating on previously diesel-operated lines by DB. This concession will run until 2033.

Description:  These were built by Henschel, Krupp, Krauss-Maffei and MaK starting in 1968. I believe this one now belongs to a private operator. Seen from the train to the airport.

Title:  Class 111 Electric at Munich East Station
Description:  Intended for express train services, these engines were built by Krauss-Maffei, Henschel, Krupp, Siemens, AEG and BBC between 1974 and 1984. This one belongs to private operator TRI Train Rental. TRI Train Rental operates open-access passenger trains like soccer extras, and replacement trains for other operators. Its locomotive-hauled trains can often be seen when new trains have not yet been delivered after the start of a new concession period. Seen from the train to the airport.

Description:  These are built by Siemens and were introduced in 2010. Amtrak's ACS-64s are based on them. This one belongs to Electric Locomotive Leasing. Seen from the train to the airport.

Class 253 Diesel at Munch East Station
Title:  Class 253 Diesel at Munch East Station
Description:  This engines belongs to PRESS, a company that operates narrow gauge tourist trains on the remains of Wolkenstein-Jöhstadt (Pressnitztalbahn), and started to lease standard gauge diesel locomotives to other operators. In the mean time the company operates its own freight and track maintenance trains. This engine advertises their Rasender Roland steam train operation on the island of Rügen.

Looming Over All
Title:  Looming Over All
Description:  Milan Central station certainly is imposing. The station opened in 1938 and was designed by architect Ulisse Stacchini, whose design was modeled after Washington Union Station. The station, which was supposed to be rather simple, kept changing and became more and more complex and majestic, especially when Benito Mussolini became Prime Minister who wanted the station to represent the power of the Fascist regime.
